As we begin...

PrivateView Winter 1996 Vol.1 No.1The January 1 Customs Union ushered in a new era in Turkish-European Union relations. Turkey and its business community wholeheartedly welcomed the Customs Union, hoping it would finally pave the way for full Turkish membership in the EU.
Expectations are high that this economic partnership will prove to be mutually beneficial given the rapid rate of globalization and efforts to form regional economic and political alliances.
This new stage in Turkey's relations with both the EU and the world at large makes a fast, reliable and unrestricted flow of information imperative. The world increasingly has little patience for historical misgivings, latent prejudices or animosities between peoples. Humanity's common heritage calls for increased cooperation in achieving economic prosperity and social and political harmony.
The Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association, TÜSİAD, spearheaded efforts to achieve the Customs Union. As a reflection of its growing responsibility, TÜSİAD is launching this first edition of Private View, a quarterly aimed at contributing to public knowledge about economic, political and social developments in Turkey. Private View will highlight issues of concern to the Turkish private sector.
It hopes to become a prime source of reference about Turkey and to provide valuable insight into Turkey.
