Liberalization of Energy Market and Security of Energy Supply

In the period we are currently undergoing; providing the security of energy supply that is the most important input of almost all kinds of industry, all manner of branches of production and continuing economic stability have a very critical importance in terms of sustainable growth. In order to augment the competitiveness of sectors; it is necessary for high quality energy to be obtained at reasonable prices and its efficient utilisation. The precondition of the necessity of providing the security of energy supply and enabling the energy sector to reach a competitive structure is for the necessary arrangements foreseeing competition in the sector to be realised and for a functioning market structure to be formed.

It is estimated that the world’s energy consumption is going to increase more than 50% in the next 25 years. This estimation renders the providing of sustainable, competitive and reliable energy extremely important for all countries. This situation renders the formation of a fully competitive and functional market in the sector a must. The role of the public on the other hand, in terms of the future, is to fulfill a regulatory function with the establishment of efficient inspection and supervision mechanisms rather than act as an investor and operator. Because; in this market that is becoming more and more globalised, the importance of strong companies increases with each passing day. In this framework we, as TÜSİAD, support the establishment of a dialogue mechanism between the private and the public sector for the immediate removal of the technical and administrative hurdles set in front of the investment in the energy sector.
