Climate Change

Our planet, while seeking remedies for problems created by the global financial crisis such as loss of income and unemployment on the one hand, has to at the same time struggle against global climate change. Otherwise the developmental gains we have achieved until today and all that we have obtained along the path of growth and development will be under risk.

In order to increase the total level of welfare; environment friendly production techniques and technologies need to be developed and adopted in the framework of sustainable development principles. To be able to simultaneously overcome the economic and ecological problems we are currently experiencing; it is necessary for a new production model, one that is a low carbon economy model to be adopted. In this way; economic benefit will be gained by increasing the competitiveness of the sectors on the one hand and our living standards will also be elevated on the other. We need to hold activities for the development of environment friendly techniques and technologies and in order that they may provide a competitive edge for our country’s industry in the post 2012 climate regime according to which countries will have to undertake new responsibilities.

The Turkish economy needs to grow at an annual rate of 5-6% for our economic and social welfare level to reach that of developed countries. Activities need to be held towards alleviating the emission increase that will be formed in connection to the targeted economic growth rate. Within this framework; measures at increasing energy conservation and energy efficiency should be taken, our renewable energy potential should be developed and the use of environment friendly technology and techniques and Research & Development activities should be supported.
