In her speech, Ümit Boyner, Chairwoman of Board of Directors of TÜSİAD, mentioned that the obligations to provide security of supply of energy and to struggle with global climate change require all the countries to make "extremely sensitive" choices. Mrs. Boyner mentioned that the projections of International Energy Agency envisage that the world's energy consumption will increase by more than 60% in the next 25 years, and reminded that the same international projections point out that the increase in the energy consumption of Turkey will be above world average with its developing economy. Mrs. Boyner stated that it is necessary to supply high quality energy with suitable prices and to use such energy efficiently in order to increase the competitiveness of the sectors, especially of the industry, to achieve less 'carbon-intensive' growth of economy within the frame of 'sustainability', and to show maximum attention towards the protection of environment.
At the meeting, a panel titled "Liberalization of Energy Markets" was organized. The panel was moderated by Ali Kibar, Member of TÜSİAD Board of Directors and Chairman of Industry, Services and Agriculture Commission.
